VanKIRAP Cyclone Season ends

Port Vila, Vanuatu – 5th of May, 2025 – The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD) has officially declared the end of the 2024-2025 Tropical Cyclone (TC) Season for the Vanuatu Area of Responsibility (AoR), effective as of 30th April, 2025. While the season brought a pair of tropical cyclones through the region, it also highlighted the resilience and preparedness of Vanuatu's communities.

The season, which runs from November 2024 to April 2025, experienced two tropical cyclones which came through the Vanuatu Area of Responsibility.

Although the winds related to the two systems did not have direct impacts to the islands of Vanuatu, heavy rainfall, strong inland and strong coastal winds had an impact to many communities which lies directly to the path these two-system passed through.

The Director of VMGD, Mr. Levu Antfalo, acknowledged the preparedness efforts of communities, disaster management agencies, and partner organizations in mitigating impacts. “While we were fortunate to avoid the worst-case scenarios, the season served as a reminder of the importance of early warnings and community resilience,” said Mr. Antfalo.

Despite the season’s end, VMGD urges the public to remain vigilant, as off-season weather events can still occur. Communities are encouraged to stay informed through official VMGD channels and maintain emergency preparedness plans.

We encourage everyone to download the Weather App and take advantage of its features to stay informed and prepared for any weather or hazard- related situation.
