  • Pacific Gears Up for Fourth Pacific Meteorological Council and Second Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Meteorology

    Preparations are well underway for the upcoming Fourth Pacific Meteorological Council (PMC-4) and Second Pacific Ministerial Meeting on Meteorology (PMMM-2) to be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands from 14-18 August 2017.

    The PMC will bring together over 100 Pacific Met Directors, partners and stakeholders to strengthen the path ahead for Pacific Meteorology under the theme, "Sustainable Water, Climate, Ocean and Hydrology Services for a resilient Pacific."

    Adaptation Fund pours over 20 USD million into the Pacific

    Negotiations are now underway at the UN Climate Conference in Marrakech, Morocco to see how the Adaptation Fund can serve the Paris Agreement.
    The Adaptation Fund was established under the Kyoto Protocol, it finances projects and programmes to help developing countries adapt to climate change. Since 2010 it has committed USD 357 million in 63 countries, of these five are from the Pacific islands.

    Pacific islanders encouraged to help develop IPCC Climate change science reports

    The call has come for more Pacific island authors and contributors to be part of the science reports released by the Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change.

    A special IPCC report on the Impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways is to be released in 2018.

    The Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC) was the focus of a special event at the UN Climate talks in Marrakech this week. The PCCC is to be the shared regional climate hub for inclusive collaboration and coordination to address and meet adaptation and mitigation priorities of Pacific island countries and territories.
